Experience: Lady Dj D.NYCE was born on January 9, 1969 and raised in Highbridge Projects in Da Bronx, some ol' heads may know it as The Hill. It was the 212 home of Hip Hop now its 718 still the home of Hip Hop. My inspiration to deejay came from watching deejays at the jams in the parks and my fear of the mic. I was a little girl hanging out with my older cousins and they would stick me by the dj and tell me to stay there till they came for me. So I used to watch and learn. Grandmaster Flash used to always win battles. I was your average teenage tomboy hanging with the fellas who were either rapping, making beats on a beatbox or deejaying. They would try to get me to rap their lyrics and when I did, I sounded great, but to do it in front of a crowd of strangers was scary for me at the time. I preffered being in the background as the hype person or mixing and scratching the beats on the turntables. With plenty of practice I became great. There were many djs in myhood with equipment, I took ever opportunity to practice and become better. To get them to let me play out in the parks I would promise to untangle the wires and help set up. Behind my elementary school 126 in the Bronx is were a lot of the Jams and deejay battles and a lot of hiphop history happened in the 70's & 80's. I lived in Highbridge projects (w/my grandma who still lives there) across the street from the school (166 & University Ave) they renamed the street after Martin Luther King. This is were I learned how to deejay. Thanks too all the deejays that took the time to teach me and gave me the opportunity to practice on their sets, without them I wouldn't be who I am today, a phenomenal female deejay, LADY DJ D.NYCE. Can you say "Boogie Down Bronx". NEW YORK STAND UP!!The rest is history. Now in trying to keep up. My children are big boys now and I now have my own "sh*t" and the time to dedicate to my craft day of modern technology I find myself . I'm now independently trying to make my own mark in the industry as a female dj I'm true to the game and I LOVE ALL MUSIC.
